The record

Blackwell's arrival brought a New Orleans lilt to the free-jazz frontier, loosening the rhythmic ground beneath Coleman and Cherry's tangled unison lines. A defiant title track and a sideways glance at "Embraceable You" show the quartet claiming standards and originals alike as their own turf.
