The record
A 1963 Impulse date splitting duties between quartet and septet settings, with the leader's percussive McCoy Tyner touch anchored by two very different drummers in Elvin Jones and Albert Heath. The larger group -- Thad Jones, John Gilmore, Frank Strozier -- gives these sessions a harder, brassier edge than Tyner's trio work of the same period.
