The record
A sextet date cut just as Coltrane's Prestige tenure was hitting stride, with Mal Waldron's writing and arranging giving the horns -- Splawn's trumpet, Shihab's baritone -- unusual weight against the Chambers-Garland-Heath rhythm section. A transitional, undersung entry bridging his Davis-quintet sideman work and the leader dates to come.
