The record
'Five Spot After Dark' and 'Blue Daniel' turned this Golson-penned session into a hard-bop songbook, Flanagan's comping easing the frontline into a relaxed groove. Garrison's bass work here previews the anchor he'd soon provide Coltrane.

Pressings
Mono and stereo both landed in 1959 on Savoy. MG 12141, the earliest pressing on file here, carries a deep groove and the RVG stamp; the stereo, ST 13006, carries the stamp alone. Savoy kept MG 12141 running -- a 1963 oxblood-label mono still shows deep groove and RVG, while the 1964 maroon-label repress shows only the stamp, so read the label color. Think! Records cut a 200g mono, THLP-185, in 2011.
