Elvin Jones stirs up serious weather beneath this '64 quintet, Dorham's bop instincts still anchoring the frontline as Henderson works further outside his debut's boundaries. Tyner's chords keep pulling the music back toward center.

Pressings
The earliest copies on file here are a pair of 1965 Blue Note pressings -- mono BLP 4166 and stereo BST 84166 -- both carrying the RVG stamp. A 1966 mono listed as No Ear shows how quickly the Plastylite copies give way, so read the deadwax before paying early-pressing money. BST 84166 then repeats through 1975 reissues and a 1983 French repress. The serious modern cut is the Music Matters 45 RPM MMBST-84166 from 2012.
