The record

Modal waters run deep here -- floating vamps and open harmonies that conjure the sea without ever naming it outright. Carter and the young Tony Williams give the date its tidal pull, while Hubbard and Coleman ride the changes with unhurried clarity.

The earliest we list is the 1965 Blue Note 84195 in stereo, carrying an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear. Mono BLP 4195 is also 1965 -- one copy with a deep groove on side one only, both with the ear. From 1966 the same record comes back as repressings under BST 84195, and US reissues run right through the seventies, so a catalog number alone will not date a copy. Modern cuts on file are Analogue Productions AP-84195 at 45rpm (2010, 2013) and Music Matters MMBST-84195 (2015, 2020).
