Garland and Philly Joe Jones already show the rapport that would anchor Davis's mid-'50s quintet, working here in a spare trumpet-piano-bass-drums format. Pettiford's bass grounds a relaxed, ballad-heavy date that finds Davis settling into his lyrical Prestige voice.
