The record

A club-recorded snapshot of the classic quintet mid-flight, Bird's alto cutting through the room noise with the same quicksilver logic he brought to the studio dates. Rougher fidelity than the Savoy or Dial sides, but it captures the live combustion of Parker, Davis, and Roach pushing bebop forward in real time.

Session personnel

  • Charlie Parker — alto saxophone
  • Tommy Potter — bass
  • Max Roach — drums
  • Duke Jordan — piano
  • Miles Davis — trumpet
