The record
A stark, brooding session that also happens to mark ECM's very first release -- Waldron's angular, repetition-heavy attack finding a taut, sympathetic pulse in Eckinger and Becton. Percussive and spare, it's the pianist working through the same hard-edged logic he'd honed behind Billie Holiday and Eric Dolphy, now stripped down to trio essentials.
