The record

A tart, Bird-inflected date from McLean's early years, cut for the short-lived Jubilee logo with a young Donald Byrd already showing the poise that would soon land him steady Blue Note work. Waldron's angular comping and Watkins' firm bass line the frontline's fire, catching McLean mid-development, sharp-toned and hungry.
