The record
A twin-reeds summit with Dolphy, cut a year after both men's New Jazz debuts -- McIntyre's angular themes and doubled flute lines push past hard bop's edges toward something more open. Bishop's piano keeps it grounded while the two altoists trade ideas that feel genuinely conversational, not competitive.

Pressings
The earliest we list is the 1961 US mono on 8247. A 1962 repress of that number shows a narrow deep groove and a laminated sleeve, and a 1963 repress drops the groove altogether, which is the quickest way to sort copies in a bin. A 1961 UK Esquire, 32-133, is the period alternative. Original Jazz Classics OJC-252 from 1986 and the 2025 Prestige CR00860 cover the reissue end.
