The record
Built from cellular structures rather than chord changes, this session stacks two basses and reed doubler Ken McIntyre against Jimmy Lyons' alto for a dense, orchestral weight. Cyrille's drums cut the ensemble into shifting blocks, a high point of the label's mid-'60s avant-garde run.

The earliest we list are the 1966 US Blue Note pair -- stereo BST 84237 and mono BLP 4237, both with an RVG stamp. Reissues begin almost at once, with 1967 All Disc and Research Craft stereo copies, so a Van Gelder stamp alone will not date a copy here. Japan issued GXK 8147 in 1980 and BNJ 71047 in 1984. Modern 180-gram remasters run from 2015 to 2021, but no audiophile-line cut is on file.
