A pre-Modern Jazz Quartet snapshot, cutting these sides alongside the men who'd soon become his rhythm section while also sitting in with Monk's early Blue Note quintet. Bebop vibes still finding their footing, with Lewis's spare comping already hinting at the chamber-jazz sensibility to come.
