Byard stretches out here beyond his usual piano role, picking up guitar for a session that finds him restless and exploratory, with Izenzon's Ornette-honed bass and Jones's polyrhythmic drive pushing the trio into looser, freer territory than the pianist's earlier Prestige dates.
