The record
A brooding tribute to Charlie Parker, its title lifted from a Mingus composition first cut a decade earlier, here reworked with McPherson's alto carrying the Bird-haunted lyricism against Byard's restless piano. Prestige compiled this material from the same era as Mingus's Debut and Candid dates, with Richmond's drums anchoring the leader's dense, elegiac charts.
