The record
A live document of the working quintet Mingus led through the mid-60s, with McPherson and Hillyer sharpening the front line and Byard's stride-to-free range matching the leader's restless arrangements. Fantasy's document of this band shows Mingus and Richmond driving hard through material stretched well past its studio origins.
