The record
Cut the same month as his celebrated Columbia sessions, this quintet date has Handy and Ervin trading gospel-tinged fire over Richmond's churning pulse. A lesser-known but sturdy entry, made for United Artists instead of the leader's usual label home.

Pressings
United Artists issued this in 1959 in both configurations -- stereo UAS 5036, the earliest on file, and mono UAL 4036. Either is the copy to want. UA renumbered it in 1962 as UAS 5078 and UAL 4078, both reissues. France got FELP 225 on La Voix De Son Maitre in 1960, and the UK World Record Club editions T 663 and ST 663 are undated club pressings.
