The record

Cut in 1970 as Tyner pushed past hard bop into modal, Africa-facing territory, with Mtume's congas and Songai Sandra Smith's voice pulling the sound toward ritual. A dense, percussive septet date that shows Tyner reshaping his post-Coltrane language for the new decade.
