The record
Electric bass and conga groove replace the old quartet swing here, Masuo's guitar cutting through Mtume's polyrhythms while the tenor rides on top. Recorded in Japan during Rollins' funk-curious '70s stretch, this one trades hard-bop lineage for stretched-out texture.
