The record
Stafford's pop-honed pipes get a proper West Coast jazz workout here, with Johnny Hodges' alto sliding in alongside a bright brass section of Candoli, Fagerquist, and Nance. A pleasing detour from her Capitol/Columbia balladry, this one leans on swing chops from Rowles, Freeman, and Lewis to keep things loose and grooving.
