"SWING SWANG SWINGIN'"--Jackie McLean--Blue Note 4024 One of the more individual alto voices around today, McLean has a generous capacity to swing and this date goes a long way in proving it. With a rhythm section comprised of Art Taylor, Jimmy Garrison and Walter Bishop, Jr. in tow, McLean offers vibrant readings of "Stablemates," "I'll Take Romance," "What's New" and "I Love You" plus three others. It's a hot session, with McLean cooking up a storm all the way.
Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1960 US mono BLP 4024 on Blue Note, carrying deep groove, an RVG stamp and the 47 W 63rd address -- the combination that carries the money. A 1966 mono repress of the same number drops both the ear and the groove. Stereo arrives as BST 84024 in 1967. For a modern cut, Music Matters pressed MMBST-84024 at 45 RPM in 2009.
