The record

A crack rhythm section -- Sonny Clark's crisp comping, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes locking in with easy swing -- gives Green room to stretch out in single-line phrases that never waste a note. Cut during his prolific early-60s run, this date captures the guitarist's blues-rooted, bebop-fluent voice at full strength.
