The record
Bebop-leaning West Coast quartet work from spring '53, with a teenage Sonny Clark already hinting at the touch he'd bring to Blue Note years later. Babasin's occasional cello switch gives the set an odd, chamber-like texture beneath Pepper's cool attack.
Session personnel
- Art Pepper — alto saxophone
- Harry Babasin — bass, cello
- Bobby White — drums
- Sonny Clark — piano
