The record
A twenty-two-year-old trumpeter's debut as leader, cut with Tina Brooks' warm tenor and a young McCoy Tyner already hinting at the harmonic depth he'd bring to Coltrane's quartet. Hard bop with a bright, confident horn out front -- the sound of a major voice announcing itself.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1960 US mono, Blue Note BLP 4040, carrying deep groove, an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear together. The 1966 NY USA-label repress still shows the ear and the deep groove for a fraction of the money. Music Matters cut it at 45 RPM in 2009 as MMBST-84040 in a gatefold; Japan's 2013 DBLP-045 is a deep groove, flat edge mono.
