The record
A side-long title suite built on a rolling cumbia vamp, thick with congas and reeds, showing Mingus stretching his big-band writing into Latin terrain. Paired on the flip with a swinging small-group score for a Peter Falk detective film, it's a late-career curiosity that rewards patient listening.

Everything on file here is 1978 Atlantic. The US LP is SD 8801, listed many times over with variant codes attached -- PR, PRC, RI, MO, SP -- plus a stereo test pressing. Canada used KSD 8801, Britain K 50486, and Japan P-10531A, which also appears as a promo and a repress. Spain's S 90.121 followed in 1979. Nothing later is listed, so there is no reissue to weigh an original against.
