The record
Buck Clayton revives the mainstream jam-session format he pioneered on Columbia in the '50s, here mixing Basie-band veterans like Buddy Tate and Earle Warren with unexpected guest Lee Konitz. A loose, blowing-session spirit runs through it, with Tommy Flanagan and Mel Lewis anchoring a swing-to-bop lineup that shouldn't work on paper but does.
