The record
A quartet date that pushed Blue Note's hard bop toward something knottier and more abstract, with Henderson's tenor cutting through Hill's angular voicings. Davis and Haynes bring elastic, conversational time, giving Hill's compositions room to feel both composed and combustible.

Pressings
Blue Note put out both in 1964: the stereo BST 84151, which is the earliest on file, and the mono BLP 4151. Both carry an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear. The 1966 pressings split -- some are Liberty-era represses with the stamp only, others still show the ear on New York labels. Modern options are the 2013 Heavenly Sweetness HS078VL and Blue Note's 2014 B0021306-01.
