The record
Miles, Monk, and Ahmad Jamal lent their names to the cover, but Sam Jones and Philly Joe Jones do the real talking underneath a touch that mixes classical poise with blues weight. 'Peace Piece' sits apart from the rest, a solo vamp that hints at what Kind of Blue would soon borrow.

The earliest we list is the 1959 Riverside RLP 12-291 in mono, with deep groove labels; stereo arrived the same year as 1129. Deep groove also shows up on Riverside entries from 1960 and 1961, so on its own it will not mark an early copy -- look at the label variant as well. Reissues are plentiful: OJC-068, the 45rpm RLP-1129 from 2004 and again in 2025 through Analogue Productions, Analogue Productions AJAZ-1129 in 2003, and a 2024 mono Record Store Day cut, CR00751.
