The record
By 1969 the band had hit a stride, Jones's slippery modernist charts riding over Roland Hanna's lyrical comping and a reed section deep enough to let Joe Farrell and Eddie Daniels roam. Solid State's house orchestra sounds loose, hard-swinging, and entirely of its moment.
