A West Coast date with an East Coast rhythm section pedigree, cut just a year before Chaloff's death -- his baritone sounds worn, lyrical, and utterly unhurried against Sonny Clark's crisp comping and Philly Joe Jones' brushwork. A quiet, valedictory statement from one of bebop's foundational baritone voices.

The earliest we list is the 1956 US Capitol mono, T 742 -- a number Capitol kept reusing, so the 1959 mono reissue, a 1976 New Zealand copy and the 2001 US reissues all wear it too, and the year is what tells them apart. The UK issue of 1956 is also T 742, with a laminated sleeve. The 1972 US M-11032 is the common secondhand copy. Best modern option is Blue Note's 2025 mono 180 gram, 602455600950.
