The record
Ayers before the disco-funk turn, still working the vibraphone within a modal jazz frame -- Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Hubert Laws lending the session real weight. A snapshot of late-'60s Atlantic-era jazz caught between hard bop lineage and the loosening rhythms that would soon pull Ayers toward crossover territory.
