The record

Five alto men trading fours over a shared frontline is the whole draw here -- Dolphy, Woods, Sonny Red, Quill and Poindexter himself squaring off with Pepper Adams anchoring below. A rare early-60s summit date that pairs Tommy Flanagan and Elvin Jones in the rhythm section, cut for Epic just as the alto sax was having a very good year.
