The record

A rare big-ish-band outing for the vibraharpist, pairing his loose-limbed swing with charts thickened by trombone, baritone, and a horn section rather than the usual quartet setting. Flanagan, Burrell, and Connie Kay keep the pulse supple beneath Jackson's blues-soaked lines, giving the date a warmer, more orchestral weight than his MJQ work.
