The record
A rare date built entirely around trombones, stacking Melba Liston's own horn against Al Grey, Jimmy Cleveland, Benny Powell and more, with Ray Bryant and Kenny Burrell easing the rhythm section along. One of the very few sessions of the era led by a woman arranger-instrumentalist, and a showcase for Liston's gift for voicing brass with warmth rather than bluster.
