The record

Newport '63 finds Tyner out front of a horn-heavy band, Mariano's alto and Terry's trumpet trading the spotlight over his sharp, quartal chording. Cranshaw and Roker hold the rhythm loose enough for an outdoor crowd, a rare live document of Tyner leading rather than accompanying.
