The record
A 1958 date finds Smith's organ trio bulked out with a two-tenor-plus-alto front line, Donaldson and Brooks trading blues choruses over McFadden's guitar and a rotating drum chair. Deep-groove hard bop from the organ combo's golden run, prized for the front-line firepower as much as the leader's own churn.
