Freddie Hubbard's brass squares off against a grittier, blues-soaked alto on this January '61 session, Drew's chords churning underneath. Watkins and La Roca keep the swing unfussy and direct throughout.

The copy to want is the 1962 US mono, BLP 4067, with the 47 W 63rd address, deep groove, a Van Gelder stamp, a Plastylite ear and a laminated sleeve -- the earliest full pressing on file, and the one carrying every marker. The 1962 stereo, BST 84067, also shows the 47 W 63rd address. A second 1962 mono has the deep groove on one side only. Later repressings drop the address; Music Matters cut a 45 RPM gatefold, MMBST-84067, in 2008.
