The record
A late-'60s date cut just before the new year, with Mabern's blues-drenched attack pushed along by Coleman and Mitchell in prime hard-bop form. Bill Lee and Hugh Walker keep the groove loose and funky, a session that leans harder into soul-jazz than the pianist's more cerebral later work.
Session personnel

- Hugh Walker — drums
- Harold Mabern — piano, electric piano
- George Coleman — tenor saxophone
- Blue Mitchell — trumpet
