The record
Byrd and Pepper Adams lock into that lean, hard-bop blend they'd perfected on Blue Note dates, trumpet and baritone trading weight and air over Duke Pearson's crisp voicings. Philly Joe Jones drives it all with the snap and swing that made him the era's most sought-after drummer.

Pressings
Two 1962 Blue Note issues are on file, mono BLP 4075 and stereo BST 84075. The earliest flag sits on the stereo, but nothing here establishes one as ahead of the other, so read the labels. The number stays put through RVG-stamped repressings in 1966 and 1970 and the 1973 black b copies. Music Matters cut MMBST-84075 at 45 RPM in 2009. Note that the 2022 French BLP 4075 is listed as an unofficial release.
