The record

Perkins and Kamuca, both fresh from Woody Herman's band, trade breathy Lester Young-derived phrases across this Blue Note date, Jolly's piano keeping the mood conversational rather than competitive. Cut in the summer of '56, it plays like a relaxed afternoon at the Lighthouse transplanted to tape.

Session personnel

  • Red Mitchell — bass
  • Stan Levey — drums
  • Pete Jolly — piano
  • Bill Perkins — tenor saxophone
  • Richie Kamuca — tenor saxophone
