The record
Hank Mobley in the tenor chair beside Lee Morgan gives this edition of the Messengers a rounder, slyer front line than the band's reputation for battery suggests. Chicken An' Dumplins and Hi-Fly stretch out at club length, Bobby Timmons planting gospel chords under everything, Jymie Merritt steady, Art Blakey shoving each soloist from behind. Leonard Feather wrote the notes. Blue Note BLP 4016, mono.
