The record
Blue Note looking back at its own first decade, 1939 to 1949, on a 1969 compilation. Fourteen tracks, and the titles run to boogie-woogie and rag -- 'Honky Tonk Train Blues,' 'Maple Leaf Rag,' 'Mule Walk' -- alongside 'Profoundly Blue' and 'Blue Horizon.' Francis Wolff supplied both the photographs and the notes, Fred Marcellino the design. No performers are named in the credits, which is the frustration of the set.
