The record
Cut in 1967 for MPS, this finds clarinetist Tony Scott -- already deep into his fascination with Asian musical forms -- fronting Indonesia's finest jazzmen, Bubi Chen and Jack Lesmana among them, folding gamelan textures into swinging postbop. A rare document of East-West cross-pollination well ahead of the "world jazz" curve, cut with players who were shaping Jakarta's jazz scene from the inside.
