The record
A Basie-adjacent brain trust -- Freddie Green's rhythm guitar, Marshall Royal's lead alto -- convened under arranger Ernie Wilkins for a big-band date stacked with three tenor stylists in Golson, Gonsalves, and Sims. Cut for Everest in late 1959, it's swinging, unpretentious ensemble writing built to let soloists breathe.
