The record
Mulligan's charts get a big-band workout here, all airy counterpoint and unhurried swing carried over from his piano-less quartet writing. Lawrence leads a crack West Coast-leaning lineup -- Cohn, McKusick, Lamond -- through arrangements that favor clarity and breath over brass-section muscle.
