Don Cherry's pocket trumpet meets Lacy's horn on this stark, prophetic quartet date, working through Monk's book when few others bothered. Higgins and Brown play loose and conversational, foreshadowing the freedom Lacy would chase for decades.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file is the 1962 US New Jazz mono NJLP 8271, carrying a deep groove and an RVG stamp. A 1963 US copy of the same number has no deep groove, and a 1963 Japanese NJ 8271 came in a laminated sleeve. Prestige reissued it in Japan as SMJ-7567 in 1971. For a clean modern copy, take OJC-1755 from 1990 or the 2023 UK numbered mono reissue of NJLP 8271.
