The record
Two stripped-down West Coast sessions built on Giuffre's chamber-jazz instincts -- one trio, one duo, both proving Manne's drums could shade and converse rather than just drive. A lean, conversational counterpoint to the era's big-band swagger, with Freeman and Rogers dropping in and out as the arrangements demand.
