The record
A guitar-bass-drums setting with no piano lets Jordan's oblique, behind-the-beat phrasing breathe -- her only date as a Blue Note leader, and a rare showcase for a singer steeped in bebop's harmonic daring. Swallow and Galbraith trade lines with her like fellow horn players, not accompanists.
