The record
A stacked reed session pulling together some of New York's sharpest alto men -- Phil Woods, Gene Quill, Herb Geller -- alongside Al Cohn and a burly baritone section, arranged as a saxophone choir rather than a blowing date. Late-'50s Warner Bros. studio jazz built on section-writing craft, with Katz, Duvivier and Johnson keeping the rhythm loose under all that horn weight.
