The record

A late-'50s Atlantic date finding Ray Charles in trio-plus-guitar company, Kenny Burrell's clean lines and Percy Heath's supple bass giving the leader room to stretch out on blues-soaked, groove-first playing. A lean, unhurried session that shows the gospel-and-blues foundation underneath Atlantic's jazz catalog.

Pressings

The earliest copies on file are 1962 Atlantics -- stereo SD 1360 and mono 1360, alongside an MGM-pressed stereo variant and a Canadian AT 1360 showing deep groove. Britain got London Records the following year, stereo SHK 8045 and mono HA-K 8045. From 1974 on it is reissues, most of them gatefold: German ATL 50 234 in 1976, Spanish HATS 421-217 in 1977. Ermitage's 180-gram VNL 18734 followed in 2019.
